PA to PR Shipping Options
We know that no one’s needs or situations are exactly alike, which is why we make sure to tailor each of our transportation contracts to our client’s specifications. And this is especially true when we’re moving vehicles from Puerto Rico to PR.
Roll On Roll Off Shipping:
This is the most cost-effective method for shipping a car overseas. It is also known as RoRo shipping. It gets its name because your car is literally rolled on and then off the carrier vessel. Once the car is secured in a spot, it will reside there until it arrives at its destination. Generally, it’s also the fastest way to move a vehicle overseas, especially from PR to PR, since transports like these visit and leave the island regularly.
Container Shipping:
We also offer two different container shipping options. The first is shared container shipping. This is when your car is packed into a container with multiple vehicles. While it is not as inexpensive as RoRo shipping, there are still savings to be had since the cost of the shipping is spread among all of the cars in the shipment. There are a number of upsides when choosing this shipment method. First, it provides another barrier between your car and its environment. And you're also allowed to pack some items in your car's trunk and interior this way, wherein with RoRo the car has to be empty of personal belongings. The main downside of this type of shipping is the fact that the container has to be completely filled with cars before it ships. This can mean a delay in moving your vehicle which means it isn’t the best option if you’re on a tight time table.
The final method is through the use of private shipping containers. With this method, your vehicle won't share the space with any other cars. This is often the preferred method for high-end cars or vehicles with expensive paint jobs. It just makes the journey that much safer. You can also fill the container with other items along with your car. This makes it a great choice when you have a lot of things to move from PR to PR. It’s important to note, however that single container shipping comes with a steeper price tag because of these advantages.
The Major Ports of PA
It should come as no surprise that Puerto Rico is home to some of the busiest ports in the world. As an island, it relies on receiving goods shipped in by boat or by air. And naturally the same goes for anything leaving the island. When shipping your car from Puerto Rico to PR, your vehicle will more than likely be leaving from one of the following three ports.
Port of San Juan:
This port is located in the San Juan metropolitan area. It is divided into piers which provide space for both passenger and cargo ships. The section of the port which houses container ships is conveniently located by Puerto Rico's extensive waterway system, allowing cargo to be moved quickly throughout the entire island. It's also possible to catch a ferry at the port since it provides round-trips from San Juan to Catano.
Port of Ponce:
This is the second most prominent Puerto Rican port. It is located in the city of Ponce, at its southern tip. This port is actually under construction with the aim to turn it into a mega port among the likes of those found in Singapore and Rotterdam. The completed port will be known as the Rafael Cordero Santiago Port of the Americas. As it is now, it is considered the island's main Caribbean port. It's also the deepest port in the Caribbean at 50 feet. Once completed the Port of the Americas is expected to have a storage capacity of 2.2 million TEUs or what is more commonly known as shipping containers.
Port of Mayaguez:
Mayaguez port is the third largest port on the island. It’s found northwest of downtown Mayaguez, along the western coast of PA. Its waters are protected by the reefs that run along its western and northern sections. This makes it an ideal port for this part of the island due to Mayaguez’s turbulent weather.
Moving a car from PA to PR does not have to be complicated or fraught with peril. By choosing Direct Connect Auto Transport you’re ensuring that your vehicle will be well cared for.
