North

Since October is the month when some states start seeing their first snow fall, it is a good idea – especially in the North – to prepare for a snow storm. The first snow often hits the mountainous areas of New England like Adirondacks, or the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania. Along I-95 in Rhode Island to Virginia are usually the areas that have their first snow fall in December. For the North, we can prepare for colder days as we begin to transition from Fall into Winter.

Midwest

Evacuations were called over in Kansas due to a Toxic Plume being released into the air from a chemical spill at a plant in Atchison, Kansas. This was due to a mixture of two chemicals that were not supposed to be mixed, causing respiratory issues in some members of the town. Schools were evacuated as a the chemical spill formed a cloud over the town. The spill has now been cleaned up, although this may halt traffic and major roads. City officials announced that it is now safe to go outside.

West

Heavy rain and flash flooding will be expected in California ranging from 4 to 6 inches. Along with California, Oregon and Washington will be expecting on and off rain throughout the week. The rainfall may be a threat to travelers as they pass through the west coast. Strong winds are also expected throughout this storm this week to pass through Washington to California.

South

Warmer and drier weather will continue this week for Florida. Conditions will be great for transportation throughout the state. As states to the North of Florida, North Carolina has some areas that are still flooded. Several major roads are still not passable, and some vehicles may still be stranded within the rubble from the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Direct Connect’s transportation to and from North Carolina may be affected.
