It looks like the future of car transportation could be just around the corner. An autonomous truck has recently been given the right to legally operate in Nevada. The truck, which is made by Daimler, is called the Freightliner Inspiration Truck. It is, in truth, semi-automous because it still requires a human driver behind the wheel. The driver would take over when exiting highway ramps or backing up to unload cargo.

The truck is outfitted with a number of different cameras and other sensors. And in order to be allowed to operate in Nevada it was required to pass some serious tests. One had it drive over 10,000 miles on a track in Germany. Time will only tell how Daimler puts their trucks to use (currently they have two) but it is easy to imagine the benefits and changes which could be brought about by these machines.
