California is a U.S. state located on the West Coast of North America. Known as the, “Golden State”, California is the most populous state in of the United States with a population of 38,802,500. Major cities include Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Jose. California’s transportation department is called California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS). A few popular routes in California are Route 1, Highway I-5, I-8, I-10, I-15, I-40, I-80. Route 1 is nationally recognized as one of the most scenic routes in the nation, as it runs along most of the Pacific coastline of California. California is also home to one of the Wonders of the Modern World, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Nearly 2 miles long, the Golden Gate Bridge connects Route 1 to U.S Route 101. The Golden Gate Bridge is considered, “The Most Beautiful, and Certainly the Most photographed, bridge in the world”. Hollywood is also a major attraction, as many celebrities work and live in the glamorous area.
