Maryland is a state located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, bordering Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Maryland is known as the “Old Line” State, a nickname bestowed upon the state by General George Washington as a dedication to the line troops whom served in many Revolutionary Wars. In 2014, Maryland had an estimated population of 5,976,407. Major cities include Annapolis, Baltimore, Columbia and Germantown. Major highways in Maryland as Highway I-68, I-83 and I-97. The department of transportation is known as Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). The Harbor Tunnel is a frequented road, The 1.4-mile, four-lane tunnel handled its first vehicles in November 1957. Today, traffic at the Harbor Tunnel totals nearly 23.6-million vehicles. One of Maryland’s largest attractions is the Baltimore Inner Harbor, where there are numerous restaurants and entertainment options. Maryland is renowned for having delicious seafood–specifically lobster and crab cakes.
