North – The Northern states from Virginia to Maine can expect to have sunny weather for this week and Memorial Day weekend. Allow extra time for traveling this weekend, especially along Interstates 4, 10, 20, 75, 85 and 95.

South – Throughout this week and into Memorial Day weekend, expect heavy rain and flood threats for Florida. The Gulf coast will also be affected with tropical moisture, leading to bouts of rain and thunderstorms this weekend from Texas to Alabama.  Around the Gulf  of Mexico, there is a low chance of the low pressure system developing into a tropical storm. There is a chance for flooding and rip currents. Expect travel disruptions for these areas.

Midwest – Expect travel disruptions this week from North Dakota to Missouri. There is the potential for damaging winds, hail and thunderstorms. Severe storms in the Ohio Valley may cause property damage, power outages and damage to homes, especially for today.

West – The Kilaeua Volcano in Hawaii has now reached the water, which has created new tensions for the Island. The gases are threatening residents from the Big Island. Since the lava reached the Ocean this past Saturday, a new threat came to the Island which resulted in plumes forming. Plumes are steam with hydrochloric acid and gas particles, which can cause irritation to skin, lungs and eyes. The plume can also changed directions quickly, which threatens many residents on the Island. Listen to evacuations being ordered for parts of Hawaii.
