Car dealerships are in the business for the money. With that said, there are many finance guys in the industry who are just looking for a quick sale to make a quick buck. They use pressure tactics to get you to act quickly, and you may often pay more with hidden fees. Not all finance guys are like this, so if you feel too pressured – choose another car dealership.

They Pressure You Into Putting a Deposit Down

A desperate finance guy might say something like, “You have to purchase the car now or the deal is gone.” This adds pressure to the person shopping for cars, not giving much of a chance for competing for offers at other car dealerships. They often will want you to put your money down right away to secure your car and may exaggerate the amount of interest in this type of car – trying to make it sell quicker. The buyer can respond by giving their own price and saying “This offer expires tonight.” If the finance guy is desperate to sell you this car, they will often accept the deal.

There Are Suddenly Undisclosed Fees at The Time of Purchase

If there are any kind of hidden fees that were not disclosed upfront, this is a warning sign that you have a dishonest finance guy. Many times, when the finance guy is aware that you are interested in the car, they will throw in a last minute price increase. You can easily tell them you have to think about it, and they might drop the offer.

Always Take Your Time When Buying a Car

You do not want to make a quick decision without doing any research on the value of the car or different dealerships selling the same exact one. When purchasing a car from a dealership, they may tell you that they are including a bunch of items for free. If you do not want all the extra items, explain so to the dealer. Sometimes, it may even seem that the extra equipment is free and part of the deal. Some dealers may tell you that they are losing money on the deal. They may pressure you into feeling sorry for the dealership, hoping you will buy the car. You can explain that you are going to be the person losing money if you buy this car. If you are ever feeling pressure in the car buying process, you can always just walk away. There are other more honest dealerships out there that can likely sell you the car you want at a great price.
