Georgia is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. Known as, “The Peach State” because farmers have gained a reputation for producing the highest quality peaches. As of 2014, Georgia is one of the top ten most populous states with an estimated population of 10,097,343. Major cities include Atlanta, Augusta, and Columbus. Georgia’s transportation department is known as the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). A popular travel route in Georgia is the I-16. The Civil War has left Georgia a strong history, rich in culture that is present in many of its famous landmarks. A stark contrast in historical culture is evident with landmarks such as The Historic Oakland Cemetery where many Confederate soldiers are buried and and the many dedications to Dr. Martin Luther King, such as the Ebenezer Baptist Church where he preached and The King Center.
