Illinois is a state in the Midwestern region of the country. It is known as the Prairie State due to the abundance of prairie grasses. The state has a rich historic culture which consists of 86 National Historic Landmarks. And as of 2014, Illinois had a population of 12,880,580. Its major cities include Springfield, Chicago, Aurora, and Rockford. Chicago, is famously known as the “Windy City”, due to the city’s extremely cold winds and weather. The weather is a result of Chicago’s location near Lake Michigan, where cold air from the lakes blow over the entire city. Some of the state’s major highways include Highway I-24 I-39 I-41 I-88. The Illinois Department of transportation is known as IDOT which stands for The Illinois Department of Transportation. Some of the major roads in Illinois are Interstate X (I-X), US Route X (US X) and Illinois Route X (IL X).
