Toyotas have been a part of the American automotive landscape going back as far as 1957. But the brand didn’t really take off in the United States until the late 1970s. Since then, Toyotas have proven to be some of the most popular cars among American buyers. Let’s take a look at a few reasons that these long-lasting and value-packed cars and trucks have done so well.

Longevity

In many places throughout the United States, especially in the South, seeing a Toyota Camry from the 1980s or a Toyota Corolla from the ‘70s is a relatively common occurrence. That there are small Toyotas still on the road more than 40 years after rolling off the assembly line is a testament to just how long these cars can last when they’re taken care of.

Since first appearing in mass numbers in the United States throughout the 1970s, Toyota has consistently topped the ranks of the most reliable and longest-lasting car brands in existence.

Ruggedness and Reliability

Among the best-selling Toyotas have always been the manufacturer’s many different truck models. Any Toyota truck owner can tell you that the allure of the Tacoma and other Toyota truck models is considerable. These vehicles not only often have lower sticker prices for more options than their American counterparts, but they’re also able to take a severe beating, lasting longer than most other brands of pickups.

Low Initial Cost and High Resale Value

Perhaps the biggest reason that so many car buyers have become loyal Toyota enthusiasts is due to the combination of low initial cost and high resale value. Few other car brands have offered as much value for buying new than Toyota. Since the 1970s, Toyotas have delivered superior value, giving more options, better engines and more comfortable interiors for less money than the competition.

At the same time, Toyotas have consistently been among the top cars for retaining value. This, of course, is related to the fact that Toyotas have always been among the longest-lasting and most reliable vehicles on the road. The fact that a car can be bought with 200,000 miles on it and still have another 200,000 miles to go before its date with the junkyard means that much older and higher mileage Toyotas have been able to command prices that other car brands can just not compete.

All of these things have combined to give Toyotas an almost cult-like following among the manufacturer’s loyal fans.

So if you do have a Toyota and you’re thinking of selling it because of a move or because of some other reasons, rethink it! If needed, ship your car where you go. Toyota’s (especially some of the older models) are still a gem in the car world.
