La Nina will be affecting weather in the middle of the U.S. and most Southern states will have slightly above average temperatures. For the Northwest, Midwest and Northeastern states from Washington to New Hampshire; this will be the second winter in a row with weak La Nina conditions that may affect weather. In the Northwest, expect below average temperatures and low-elevation snow.

North – Arctic cold conditions are hitting winter weather records in the North. From Virginia to Maine, these states are experiencing colder than average temperatures for this time of year. This past Saturday, from Massachusetts to New York, the wind chill was in the mid 20 degrees.

Midwest – The Midwestern states are experiencing arctic winter air sweeping East from North Dakota to Ohio. The arctic blast has triggered lake-effect snow in many areas across the west like Illinois and Michigan. In these areas, including Chicago – the snow has caused several accidents and travel delays.

West – In Oregon, high winds and heavy rainstorms caused power outages in Portland. Wind warnings from Oregon to Washington are for gusts of 70 to 80 mph. In California, residents are cleaning up from past wildfire damage. Thousands of buildings were destroyed, especially in the Wine country.
South – In Northern Texas, scattered rain showers along with cloudy weather are expected for today, but on Tuesday, weather will be partly cloudy with sunny weather. Travel in this area should be great after Tuesday for transporting vehicles. Weather in the southeastern states will be cooler for the end of this week with 40 degrees in Atlanta, Georgia and 30 degrees in Nashville, Tennessee.
