Mississippi is a US state in the southern region of the country. Mississippi is known as the “Magnolia State” because it is the state’s flower and also the state tree. As of 2014, Mississippi had an estimated population of 2,994,079. Major cities include Jackson, Gulfport, and Hattiesburg. The department of transportation is called Mississippi Department of Transportation or MDOT. Mississippi is possibly most known for The Mississippi river which measures 2,320 miles! The Mississippi River is the chief river of the largest drainage system in North America. Nearly 60% of Mississippi is covered by forests, and more than 100 species of trees are found in the state, which offers amazing camping expeditions. About 40% of Mississippi is made up of farmland, this has kept small town values and traditional beliefs in tact. The state also has the 2nd largest national cemetery.
