Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes region of the Midwestern United States. Michigan is generally known as the Wolverine State due to the blood thirsty nature of troops during a dispute in 1835. Ironically, wolverines are not common in Michigan. In 2014, Michigan had an estimated population of 9,909,877. Major cities include Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Warren. Michigan is home to the Mackinac Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Michigan Stadium is the largest stadium in the United States. Tahquamenon Falls is the second-tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. A major highway in Michigan is Highway I-96. The department of transportation is known as The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Big Bay Point Light is the only operational lighthouse with a bed and breakfast. It is reputed to be haunted, and the novel and movie “Anatomy of a Murder” were inspired by a murder at the lighthouse.
