North – Lake Effect Snow has brought about 40 inches of snow to the Northern states. Along the Great Lakes, 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour was reported. Upstate New York was affected, and had about 40 inches of snow. Redfield, NY  went over the 200 inch mark for snow this season. Lake effect snow from last Thursday affected Ohio to New York.
 
WestCalifornia had the winter with the most amount of snow for January since 1952. Tahoe City in California had 135.5” of snow just in this month. Mammoth Lakes had more than 20 ft of snow reported. Another storm will arrive this Wednesday through Saturday coming in from the Pacific Ocean. This strong storm will bring rain and snow from Washington to Nevada and from Idaho to South Dakota. Expect delays in transportation throughout this area for the week.
 
Midwest – Lake effect snow will be targeting states from Ohio to Minnesota. Snow will be from 2- 4 inches in the Midwest and will pass by after today into the Northeastern states. Snow will be light and will pass through quickly, so transportation should be of mild concern for this area.
 
South – Already, there has been a deadly start to 2017 with tornadoes in the South. Since 1969, this is the most tornado deaths that were reported in January, with 19 deaths in the South. Tornadoes recently affected Georgia to Louisiana, with Georgia having serious damage from an EF-3 tornado over the weekend on Sunday. 16 people died from the tornado, flattening houses and covering roads with debris. A state of emergency was ordered for Georgia, and many main roads are not passable at the time. Over 40 tornadoes were reported across the South this year. Winter tornadoes are increasingly dangerous due to the tornadoes developing overnight or early morning when people are asleep. The most tornadoes this year were from Texas to Florida, where severe storms are still expected for the winter months.
