There’s a good chance that in the recent weeks you’ve been at the pump just trying to rack your brain trying to remember the last time the price of diesel has been this low. Well the answer is: 2010. Yep that’s right. This is the first time that diesel has dropped below $3 since 2010. And this is the lowest it’s been since September 6, 2010. As of January 19th the price of diesel is down 94 cents from the same week last year and has almost dropped 70 cents since the start of December. This is a nationwide drop so truckers the whole country over are benefiting.

Visit CCJ Digital if you’d like to contrast and compare the diesel prices of this year with those of the past several years. It’s enlightening and makes you wonder just how far the price could fall.

But what do these rock bottom prices mean? Of course they mean smart fleets and operators can take full advantage of this break in operating costs but what it shouldn’t mean is that we forget all we’ve learned about energy conservation and fuel economy. A lot goes into determining the price of fuel. So we shouldn’t delude ourselves that these prices are going to last forever. You can check out more on this sentiment here.
