Iowa is a US state in the Midwestern United States. Iowa is known as the “Blackhawk State” as a tribute to the Indian warrior of the same name. In 2014, Iowa had an estimated population of 3,107,126. Some of its major cities include Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport. One of the major highways in Iowa is the Highway I-74. The state’s department of transportation is called the Iowa Department of Transportation or IOWADOT. The following are a few of the sights and attractions native to the state. For instance, in Madison County, there are 5 world-famous Covered Bridges which remain standing today. They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These bridges are the Roseman Bridge, Holliwell Bridge, Cedar Bridge, Cutler Donahow Bridge and the Imes Bridge. The bridges were covered by order of the Madison County Board of Supervisors to help preserve the large flooring timbers, which were more expensive to replace than the lumber used to cover the bridges sides and roof.
